The roots of the RAG-Stiftung lie in the coal mining industry. The foundation is thus responsible for financing the perpetual obligations left behind by the German coal industry and generates the funds needed to fulfil these obligations. It also promotes projects in the fields of education, science and culture to support the transformation of the former mining regions.
